Networking as an RD2BE

Networking is something everyone hears about yet is so hard to do. Even though the pandemic may have hindered certain connection opportunities, there are still numerous ways to network as an RD2BE!

What is Networking?

Networking, essentially, is connecting with other people that can enhance your professional development. It can happen in deliberate networking events or impromptu situations. Understanding and setting an intention with networking, though, can really help propel you towards forming a great network early as a student.

The people you network with can be anyone! Professors, peers, prospective employers, the list continues. These connections can also be found in virtual or physical environments. The world of networking is yours to explore!

Why Should I Network?

Like with anything, it never hurts to start early. Networking is something that can lead you to your next job opportunity, preceptor, rotation site, and more. Also, networking with people from diverse backgrounds is a great way to enrich your upbringing as an aspiring dietitian. It gives you room to explore different avenues of dietetics with other students or professionals.

How Do I Network?

We completely understand how daunting and intimidating networking can seem, especially as a student, but any step today is one more step in the right direction!

This is the part where we do our shameless plug for our FREE Crash Course On-Demand program! We just released a new module that introduces networking and how to use it to your advantage. A few examples we cover relate to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, On-Campus/Remote Opportunities, and these just scratch the surface.

Like with anything, make sure to set intentions, research, and don't be afraid to put yourself out there! Trying to find the "perfect" connection or network can sometimes be the reason why we see no progress.

Is there a professor that you are fascinated by, but scared of how to approach them? Just shoot them an email or talk to them after class!

Is there an event on campus, whether social or professional, that you have been wanting to attend, but afraid you won't make any friends or feel connected with anyone? You won't know unless you try!

Even if these experiences are complete flops, it is huge simply putting yourself out there. It'll make opportunities and networking in the future that much more comfortable. Again, with the help of the internet, it can start today!

Our Crash Course On-Demand covers more than just networking, and if you are interested in signing up for this FREE resource, click here! We also offer other programs that can prove as great networking opportunities, such as our Leadership Network, Leadership Training, Mentorship Program, and more to come!
